What everyone thinks…

 Non-fiction

I arrived to Los Angeles two days ago, and it was exhausting. I mean, it was tiring waking up in the morning and having my parents drive me to the airport and then my flight was delayed, so I had to wait three more hours till takeoff. When I was in my seat before taking off, I just wanted to try to sleep and listen to music because I knew once I arrived to LA, I had a bunch of things to get done. A lady, probably in her late 40s, sat next to me. She had a weird style, her hair was in a big ponytail and her clothes were, to say the least, a little too revealing. Yet, I still liked how confident she appeared to be and that she was “free”, or at least that is what I thought by looking at her.

I woke up by feeling a movement. I opened my eyes and realized that I was resting on the lady’s shoulder. I immediately retrieved my head, and said “Sorry, ma’am.” “Oh, it’s okay. Trying to rest before arriving to Los Angeles is probably the best decision.”- she replied. I smiled, and thought that she was cool and understanding. I wanted to ask her more questions and have a conversation because there were two to three hours remaining of the flight. I asked, “So, is there anything I should know when I arrive to LA?” She replied, “Well honey, just be sure of why you came, and if you don’t, I’m sure you will find something right away.” I did know why I decided to come to Los Angeles; I wanted to be a stylist.

Two hours went by quite quickly, I ate a granola bar, listened to music, and talked a little bit more with the lady. I didn’t catch her name. When I got out of the airplane, I went for my luggage and immediately for a cab. Fortunately for me, I got in a cab quickly and didn’t have trouble. I told the driver to leave me in Branston, 234, Fourth Avenue; where a friend of my mom lives. She was very sweet to welcome me in her house; she lives with her daughter who is twenty years old. She is five years older than me, so I hope I can get along with her.

That day, when I arrived to my aunt Olivia’s house and met her daughter Christine, I went to unpack and take a shower. They were so nice they made me coffee. I was going to go out by myself and visit some places because I had to run some errands, but they were not necessary, so Christine and Olivia invited me to the beach and then to eat dinner. When I arrived to their home, I went straight to change to my pajamas, brush my teeth, and wash my face; I then went to sleep.

Today, the second day in LA, is going be interesting. Olivia works in Graphic Designing and Christine goes to her Architecture class, so I will be spending my day adventuring through the city. I decided to make my through the various stores and coffee shops, which seem to be full. I basically spent my morning walking and watching the amazing, yet simple lives of other people.

I entered the house with the keys Olivia provided for me to enter without any problem whenever I wanted to go out and then come back. I heard voices and I caught the scent of pumpkin spice latte, so I went to the kitchen to see who was doing it. I saw aunt Olivia and… the lady of the flight. They were laughing and seemed to have a good time. I guess they are friends. When Olivia saw me, she said “Oh, Keira, how good that you are here. This is my friend Miranda. Miranda, this is Keira. She is staying with us.” Miranda said, “Of course, we saw each other in the flight to LA. It is nice to meet you properly, Keira.” I responded, “You too, Miranda.” Olivia offered me a pumpkin spice latte, and I accepted. We talked and laughed and I really enjoyed their company. Miranda then said something, “You know Keira, I would love for you to come with me tomorrow to a makeup salon. I think you have great taste.” I said, “I would love to. Thank you.” Olivia added, “I think this might be your future job, Gemma.”

I went with Miranda to the salon. Everyone was very welcoming and sweet. Claudia, the owner, showed me different makeups she did and the brushes she used. I was so interested that I didn’t notice when Miranda left because of an emergency. Claudia said that it was fine and that she could take me to the house. I told her I knew my way, but she insisted. When she was driving me to Olivia’s house, she said, “Keira, I would really like to know if you are interested in having a job in the salon. I think you showed me how much you know about styling.” I was shocked, this was why I came for. I couldn’t deny this opportunity. “Wow, I will sure love to. Thank you so much Miranda.”

I did end up getting the job at the salon, however, I faced a stressful situation. Another makeup artist offered me a job, with a higher wage and a prettier place. I felt that if I accepted the job, I would let down Miranda. So I decided to talk to Miranda and let her know that this offer was for the best of my career. She took it quite hard, but she understood. She wished me the best, and I know I can count on her.

My career as a stylist is going great, and I have had the opportunity to do the makeup of many famous stars that live here in LA. I'm having a lot of fun, and my life is going great. Even though it has its crazy rides, I love that I always try new things that can make me better and teach me.
